Terms of service

Last updated 26 July 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“we”, “us”), the company behind Plainspoke. By creating an account or using the service you accept them.

The service

Plainspoke records audio you choose to record, converts it to text, and rewrites that text for clarity while aiming to preserve your meaning. It stores the resulting transcripts against your account so you can read them on your devices.

Automatic speech recognition and language models make mistakes. The cleaned text is a best effort, not a certified transcription. You are responsible for reading what Plainspoke produces before you rely on it, send it, or act on it. Do not use Plainspoke as the sole record for anything where an error would be costly — medical, legal, financial or safety-critical work included.

Your account

  • You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your credentials private.
  • One account is for one person. Plans are not for sharing between people; contact us if you need several seats.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Record people without whatever consent the law where you are requires.
  • Upload content you have no right to process, or use the service to break the law.
  • Attempt to work around plan quotas, resell access, or run automated traffic that degrades the service for others.
  • Probe, scan or attack the infrastructure. Responsible security reports are welcome at support@plainspoke.app.

Plans, payment and quotas

Paid plans are sold through Paddle.com Market Ltd, which acts as merchant of record and is the seller for your purchase. Paddle handles payment, taxes and invoices; their terms apply to the transaction itself.

Each plan includes a monthly allowance of cloud transcription measured in seconds of recorded audio. When the allowance is used up, cloud transcription pauses until the allowance resets. Local transcription in the desktop app is not metered.

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. We may change prices with at least 30 days notice by email, and the new price applies from your next renewal.

Your content

Your recordings and transcripts are yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to process your audio, generate and store transcripts, and show them back to you on your devices.

We do not use your recordings or transcripts to train models, and we do not sell them. See the privacy policy for what is stored, for how long, and who processes it.

The open source client

The Plainspoke desktop client is published under the MIT licence. That licence governs the code — including its disclaimer of warranty — and nothing in these terms restricts the rights it grants you.

Availability

We do not promise a specific uptime. The service depends on third-party model providers and can be interrupted by their outages, by maintenance, or by our own mistakes. We will make reasonable efforts to keep it running and to tell you when it is not.

Ending the agreement

You may stop using Plainspoke and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we are legally required to close, or that is generating abuse — and if we do so without cause, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid period.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under Quebec consumer protection legislation where it applies to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of the judicial district of [DISTRICT] have jurisdiction — without removing any right you have to bring a claim where you live.

Changes

We will post any change here and update the date above. For changes that materially reduce your rights, we will email account holders before they take effect.
