Plainspoke listens to your microphone. That deserves a plain answer about what happens to the audio, so here it is, before the detail: audio is processed and then discarded, transcripts are stored against your account only, and neither is used to train models or sold to anyone.
What we collect
Audio you record
When you record with the cloud models, the audio is streamed to our transcription providers, converted to text, and discarded. We do not write recordings to disk and we do not keep them after the transcript exists. When you use local transcription in the desktop app, the audio never leaves your machine.
Transcripts
Both the verbatim text and the cleaned version are stored so you can read them later and so the fidelity diff works. They are tied to your user account and protected by row-level security in the database, which means a query made on behalf of one account cannot return another account’s rows.
Account data
Your email address and authentication records, handled by Supabase Auth. We never see your password.
Usage data
Seconds of audio transcribed, which plan you are on, and when — this is what quotas are counted from. We also keep basic error logs to diagnose failures.
Payment data
We never receive your card details. Paddle acts as merchant of record and handles payment; we receive a customer identifier, your subscription status, and the country used for tax.
What we do not do
- We do not use your audio or transcripts to train models.
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not run advertising trackers on the app.
- We do not read your transcripts, except where you explicitly send one to us in a support request.
Who processes your data
- Supabase — authentication and the transcript database.
- Groq — speech recognition and the cleanup model.
- Deepgram — live transcription while you speak, on plans that include it.
- Fly.io and Vercel — hosting.
- Paddle — payment, invoicing and tax.
These providers process data on our instructions under their own data processing terms. Some operate outside Canada, which means your data may be processed in the United States and elsewhere.
How long we keep things
- Audio — not retained.
- Transcripts — on the free plan, 7 days; on paid plans, until you delete them or close your account.
- Usage records — kept while the account exists, for quota accounting.
- Billing records — kept as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can read, correct, export or delete your transcripts from the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your transcripts and account record. Under Quebec’s privacy law and, if you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR, you can also ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct or erase it, or object to processing. Write to support@plainspoke.app and we will respond within 30 days.
Recording other people
Plainspoke does not know who is speaking. If you record a conversation, the law where you are may require the other person’s consent. That obligation is yours, not ours.
Cookies
This marketing site sets no tracking cookies. The app sets only the cookies needed to keep you signed in.
